What is the Jobmesse Hannover?

The motto of the Jobmesse Hannover is “Alle Wege zu Deiner neuen Karriere” — All paths to your new career. Its goal is to bring together companies, schools, institutions, and their potential applicants and to enable a wide-ranging conversation about careers. Leading global players, small and medium-sized companies, education institutions, and institutions from a wide range of sectors offer applicants extensive information on career entry, professional reorientation, and training and further education.

The fair is organised by HR Business GmbH and is part of the Deine Jobmesse network — a series of regional career fairs across Germany that also covers Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz, and other major cities. The Hannover edition is in its 6th year and has grown into one of the most visited career events in Lower Saxony.

Instead of endless clicks through application portals, you can finally get to know employers in person — directly, personally, and at eye level. Whether you are looking for apprenticeships, dual study programmes, career changes, or your next job, you will find direct contacts and get important information first-hand. It is rare to find so many opportunities in one afternoon.

Exhibitor 1 — Dirk Rossmann GmbH (ROSSMANN)

ROSSMANN is Germany’s second-largest drugstore chain with over 4,600 stores in Europe and approximately 60,000 employees in Germany. Headquartered in Burgwedel near Hannover — one of the region’s major employers. ROSSMANN hires across store management, retail logistics, IT, marketing, finance, and Ausbildung (retail and commercial apprenticeships). Generalzolldirektion / Hauptzollamt Hannover is the regional customs authority, part of Germany’s federal customs administration (Zoll). Bahlsen is one of Europe’s most recognised biscuit and confectionery companies, headquartered in Hannover and famous across Germany for products including Leibniz-Kekse. Bundeswehr attends career fairs in a career advisory capacity rather than recruiting for military roles. At the fair you can speak with career advisors from the Karrierecenter Hannover about the full range of Bundeswehr career paths. Important for Indian visitors: active military roles require German citizenship. Handwerkskammer Hannover is the official chamber representing skilled trades (Handwerk) in the Hannover region. Landeshauptstadt Hannover — the City of Hannover — is one of Lower Saxony’s largest public sector employers. alfatraining is one of Germany’s largest vocational training providers with over 170 centres nationwide. Polizeidirektion Hannover is the Lower Saxony state police authority for the Hannover region. Present at career fairs primarily for recruitment into police careers and training. For Indian visitors: active police officer roles require German citizenship and residency. However, the Polizei also employs civilian staff in IT, communications, forensics, and administration — some of which may be accessible to non-EU nationals.

How to Prepare — Your Checklist for the Day

Before the fair — do these first:

✅  Register for your free ticket now. Pre-registration is strongly recommended to skip the entry queue. Book on Eventbrite — it is completely free.

✅  Convert your CV to German Lebenslauf format. A German CV is strictly tabular with exact start and end dates for every position, a professional photo, and a clear skills and languages section. Bringing an Indian-format CV significantly reduces your chances. The German CV format is standard across all exhibitors at this fair.

✅  Print 20+ copies of your CV. Bring one for each exhibitor you plan to visit, plus spares. German employers expect a printed document handed over in person — not a QR code or LinkedIn profile.

✅  Prepare your visa rights answer in advance. Every German recruiter will ask about your right to work. Know exactly: your visa type, how many hours per week you can work, whether you need employer sponsorship, and when your visa expires. The clearer your answer, the more confident the impression you leave.

✅  Research your priority exhibitors before you go. Study each company’s current open positions and understand what they do. A two-sentence explanation of why you are interested in that specific company makes a far stronger impression than a generic enquiry.

On the day — practical tips:

✅  The fair runs 12:00 to 18:00 — arrive at noon. The first hour is the least crowded. Recruiters are freshest and most available for unhurried conversations early in the day.

✅  Dress in German business casual. Smart trousers and a collared shirt or blouse. Not a suit — but not casual either. German career fairs are professional environments and first impressions are taken seriously.

✅  Prioritise the Jobcenter Hannover stand early. If you are on an Opportunity Card or job seeker visa, speak with the Jobcenter advisors first. They can immediately tell you which funded training courses, language programmes, and placement services you are eligible for — information that shapes how you approach every other conversation at the fair.

✅  Collect contact names from every stand. Ask for the name and email of the recruiter you spoke with. Follow up within 48 hours with a brief email referencing your conversation and expressing continued interest. Most candidates who attend fairs do not follow up — doing so puts you ahead of the majority immediately.

✅  Visit the retraining and education stands even if you have a qualification. alfatraining and DAA can explain government-funded courses that could bridge a qualification gap, improve your German language certification, or add a specific German-recognised credential to your profile — often entirely free if you are registered with the Jobcenter.
